Abstract

The diversity of race, ethnicity, customs, and languages is a defining characteristic of the Indonesian nation, while the pursuit of national intelligence is a paramount goal. These dual objectives can be effectively addressed through multicultural-based education, contributing to the resolution of conflicts arising from differences. This study, conducted at Samudra University in Langsa, Aceh, employs a qualitative method to explore the implementation of multicultural education. Data collection involved interviews, observation, and documentation, revealing the successful execution of multicultural education at Samudra University. The implementation is evident in several aspects: (a) learning materials that instill principles of tolerance, mutual assistance, and non-discrimination, (b) equal learning opportunities for students from diverse regions, and (c) a vision and mission reflecting multicultural values. The existing Islamic Religious Education curriculum model at Samudra University incorporates materials directly aligned with a multicultural perspective. However, the study suggests that current teaching methods are perceived as less engaging and effective in enhancing students' understanding. Lecturers at Samudra University exhibit an inclusive approach, treating all students equitably during the learning process and assessment. Government initiatives, including seminars and Community Service Programs, play a crucial role in enriching the value of multiculturalism at the university. This strategic approach positions Samudra University as a reference point for policymakers, aligning with the institution's pursued ideals in fostering a multicultural learning environment.
