Scale Development and Empirical Evidence of Indonesian Awareness of Circular Economy
Abstract
Awareness of the circular economy plays a pivotal role in fostering a more sustainable economy, mitigating adverse environmental impacts, and unlocking fresh business opportunities. Moreover, it serves as a catalyst for a paradigm shift in our approach to viewing and managing economic resources. Despite numerous studies worldwide, a critical gap persists, particularly in the context of circular economy awareness in Indonesia. This study addresses this gap by developing a measurement scale to gauge Indonesians' awareness of the circular economy and scrutinizing the determinants influencing their readiness to embrace a circular economy. This study is a field research with a quantitative method. The population and sample were 490 Indonesians from various provinces conducting construct mapping, focus group discussions, pre-tests, and the main survey. Based on the results of a comprehensive analysis, the development of a measurement scale for Indonesians' awareness of the circular economy found 3 (three) dimensions, namely waste and product management, with 13 statement items, while the second dimension, resources for manufacturing design, consists of 12 statement items and circular inputs for remanufacturing has 6 statement items.
